Make delicious mochi at home with glutinous rice flour, potato starch, and milk. Shape into cubes, sprinkle with cocoa powder, and enjoy this sweet treat!

The process was calming, almost meditative, as I carefully flattened the mixture and cut it into equal-sized pieces. Shaping them into perfect little cubes, I felt a sense of accomplishment. To add a special touch, I sprinkled them with cocoa powder, a twist that added a rich, chocolatey finish to the traditional recipe.

When I took the first bite, I was amazed at how something so simple could bring such joy. Sharing the mochi with my family, I realized that food truly has the power to connect us to our memories and to each other.

This recipe has since become a beloved staple in my home, perfect for rainy afternoons or any time we need a little sweetness in our lives. I hope it brings the same warmth and happiness to your home as it does to mine. Enjoy making and savoring this delightful treat!

Notes

  • You may replace regular milk with coconut milk for a richer, creamier texture and a subtle hint of coconut flavor.
  • Don’t be afraid to put a few drops of vanilla, almond, or matcha extract into the mixture for an extra layer of flavor.
  • To enjoy it more you may add a sweet filling like red bean paste, chocolate ganache, or fruit preserves inside each mochi cube for a delightful surprise.
  • You could also lightly toast the mochi cubes in a non-stick pan until they are golden brown on the outside for a slightly crispy texture and a warm, gooey center.
  • Instead of just sprinkling cocoa powder, try rolling the mochi cubes in different toppings like shredded coconut, crushed nuts, or matcha powder for added flavor and texture variety.

    • Hi, there! You can use corn starch or tapioca starch instead of potato starch. Thanks!
