Legend has it that garlic buttered shrimp emerged from a top-secret underwater culinary laboratory where shrimp, tired of being mere seafood, decided to don garlic-scented capes and buttery armor to dazzle taste buds everywhere. Ingredients

  • 1/2 1/2 kilo shrimp

  • 80 grams 80 butter

  • 8 cloves 8 garlic

  • 120 ml 120 sprite soda

  • 1/2 tablespoon 1/2 sugar

  • 1 piece 1 onion

  • 1 teaspoon 1 salt and pepper

Directions

  • Clean the shrimp; you may remove the skin and head however you like, or you can leave them on.
  • In a low-heat pan, melt the butter and sauté the garlic and onion. More garlic as possible to get more aroma.
  • When the garlic turns golden brown, add the shrimp and cook covered for 1 minute.
  • After a minute, stir and season with salt, pepper, and add the soda. Cook covered for another minute. (I didn’t take the skin off since my father loves to eat the skin especially the head)
  • Next, taste and add sugar if desired, but if the taste is good enough, you may skip this step. Cook covered for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat and serve.

Notes

  • You may finish the dish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a sprinkle of lemon zest to brighten the flavors and add a subtle tanginess.
  • If adding sugar, balance it carefully with the other flavors. A touch of sweetness can enhance the overall taste, but be mindful not to make it too sweet.
  • Serve your garlic buttered shrimp with complementary sides like rice, pasta, or crusty bread to soak up the flavorful sauce.
  • Sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese, toasted breadcrumbs, or crispy bacon bits on top for added texture and flavor.
