Notes

  • Look at the package for the recommended cooking time, but start checking the pasta a couple of minutes before the time is up. Bowtie pasta typically takes between 8 to 12 minutes to reach al dente (cooked so as to be still firm when bitten). The exact time can vary depending on the brand and size of the pasta.
  • The best way to check if the pasta is done is to taste it. It should be tender but still firm to the bite, not mushy. If it’s undercooked, it will have a hard center.
  • Pasta is best served immediately after it’s cooked and sauced. This ensures the best texture and flavor.
  • You can also boil the bowtie pasta in a large pot of water — about 4-6 quarts of water for each pound of pasta. Using a large pot with plenty of water helps prevent the pasta from sticking together.

Fun facts!

Did you know bowtie pasta is also called farfalle, which means “butterflies” in Italian? Its whimsical shape isn’t just for looks—it’s great at trapping delicious sauces! So next time you twirl your fork, think of it as a mini butterfly net!
