Ingredients

  • 1/2 kilo 1/2 Chicken breast

  • 1 1/3 1 all purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoon 2 corn starch

  • 1/2 tablespoon 1/2 salt

  • 1/2 tablespoon 1/2 pepper

  • 1/2 tablespoon 1/2 chili powder

  • water

  • 240 ml 240 cooking oil

  • Sauce
  • 80 grams 80 butter

  • 1/8 cup 1/8 honey

  • 3 tablespoon 3 ketchup

Directions

  • Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces and season them with salt, pepper, and chili powder. (I added MSG, oyster sauce, and Magic Sarap seasoning, but these are optional.) Marinate for 30 minutes.
  • To make the batter, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and a little bit of garlic powder and pepper, then add cold water until a pancake-like consistency is achieved.
  • Dip the marinated chicken in the batter and prepare for frying.
  • In a hot pan, heat the cooking oil really well and fry the chicken in batches until golden brown. Do not let the chicken pieces stick to each other.
  • When golden brown, let the chicken rest for 5 minutes and then fry again for a minute.
  • After a minute, remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  • Sauce
  • In a pan, melt the butter, and add honey and ketchup. Stir until incorporated.
  • Cook for 3 minutes, then add the fried chicken poppers. Mix until the chicken is coated with the sauce.
  • Remove from the pan, garnish with green onion, and serve!

Notes

  • Cold water makes the chicken crispier, also make sure that the cooking oil is really really hot to achieve the crispiness you dream of.
  • It is better to add garlic powder to remove the strong smell of the chicken.
  • Do not overmix your batter.
